Manchester United defeat to PSG: A coaching error or a coaching experiment?

The game between Manchester united and Paris Saint-Germain ended up in defeat for the Red Devils with Blaise Matuidi and Zlatan Ibrahimovic scoring in the first half of the game on Wednesday in their International Champions Cup clash in Chicago...

The victory for the French team moved them to the top of the invitational 10-team competition along with New York Red Bulls on 10 points.

Manager Louis van Gaal starting lineup included two players fighting for fitness (Micheal Carrick and Bastian Schweinsteiger), with the likes of Ander Herrera and Morgan Schneiderlin on the sidelines making the United defense, and midfield not stable enough to cope with the talented young PSG midfielders such as  Blaise Matuidi, Marco Verratti and Benjamin Stambouli.

Could this be seen as a coaching error or is LVG just experimenting in finding ways to bring Carrick and Bastian up to form before the English Premier League kicks off in August?

What ever the case maybe, such tactics should only be used on the training ground and not on the pitch.

The match between United and PSG showed that Manchester United are in need for a Defender if they are to be seen as a reckoning force to challenge Chelsea for the EPL title this season.

But with Nicholas Otamendi back in training with Valencia with interest from Manchester city and Segio Ramos already extending his contract with Real Madrid; Manchester United must source elsewhere for a prolific defender.
